Entire Sheet Metal Assembly Process
01
Welding
The primary function of welding is to create high-strength, rigid connections for sheet metal parts, making it particularly suitable for main structures that must bear loads and resist vibrations.
02
Riveting
Riveting is a physical mechanical connection with no high temperature and minimal deformation. Its core role is to compensate for welding’s limitations—either supplementing precision connections that welding cannot cover, or correcting minor deformations after welding.
03
Sealing
The core of sealing is to fill the gaps after connection, enabling waterproof, dustproof, corrosion-resistant, or sound-insulating functions. It is a protective reinforcement process.
Special Scenarios
- Precision thin sheet metal (≤1mm): Riveting → Welding (local) → Sealing
- Reason: Thin sheet metal is prone to burn-through or severe deformation due to the high temperature of welding. First, riveting is used to complete the precise positioning and fixing of most of the structure. Then, local spot welding/laser welding is applied to key load-bearing parts (to minimize the heat-affected zone). Finally, sealing is performed.
- Examples: Miniature sheet metal enclosures for electronic devices, protective covers for precision instruments.
- Simple structures without high strength requirements:
- Riveting → Sealing (no welding required) Reason: If the workpiece only needs splicing and fixing (no need to bear heavy loads, e.g., small hardware brackets, simple chassis), riveting can be used directly to complete the full-structure connection (high efficiency and no deformation). Then seal the gaps, eliminating the need for welding.
- Examples: Sheet metal enclosures for household small appliances, sheet metal connectors for light-duty storage racks.
